A UWE (University of the West of England) project; gathering
extensive, specific knowledge of a single thing/object/word/idea and then
turning the gathered information into a publication.
My decision was to focus
on the chairs (specifically the Robin Day ‘Hille’ chair) at my university
campus, the decision to use them, interviews with several people and students
as well as my personal thoughts. Exploring how these pieces of furniture affect
space, the range of responses seen to them and if they were the right decision.
The style influenced by instruction manuals as well as ‘American Fantasy –
Album No. 1 (Kaleidoscope); aimed at students of the campus, interior designers
and people who seek the needs for excessive and specific knowledge. Outcome
were two B5 publications with two differing styles, wrapped up as 1 to produce
‘Take A Seat’. From this, I gained more knowledge about stock, type, whitespace
and printing.
