Paddington Print Shop

2026

A Newschool project; attempting to replicate a poster production process pre-digital design, using no computers, phones or internet. Investigating 3 community initiatives and then designing posters to help publicise them.

My decision within this project was to focus on Paddington Print Shop by John Philips, established in the 1970s. This is a book about the print shop that documents the community drive; offering posters, flyers and more while only requesting clients pay for materials. They didn't have any digital design tools within their process, so I decided to replicate their mission. Design inspiration was sourced from the books Fanzine and Paddington Print Shop with their reference collection of handmade zines and posters. Community initiatives were found by looking at community notice boards and taking notes with pencil and paper. Aimed at the new generation of designers, as well as cultural historians and design activists. Outcome was 3x A3 posters. Insight gained into cut and paste, analogue tools and screen printing.
