Monogram

2025

A UWE (University of the West of England) project; selecting 1 person from 3 potential family members for me to design a personal monogram for; one indicative of the personality, profession, or feats of the person.

My decision was to choose my father for the monogram and to highlight the technical, industrial and mechanical nature of his profession (a gas technician). The style was influenced by ‘Monograms and Alphabetical Devises’ (H. & B. Cirker, 1970), Juan Villaneva and focuses mood boards. Aimed at my father exclusively, the outcome for this project was 1 monogram – embroidered on a handkerchief for him to use when sweating away while working hard. I learned about digital embroidery, how less is more and how to represent an individual.
