A UWE (University of the West of England) group project;
starting with a visit to the archives at the University of Bristol to collect
political materials from various decades and parties.
These were scanned,
categorised and labelled to help guide the direction of our publication and
exhibition. We decided to compare the success of political design through a
modern lens, while also considering the trends of the time. The title, Red v
Blue, reflected the long-standing opposition between the UK’s two major parties.
The style was influenced by mood boards made from both historical and
contemporary publications, focusing on strong background elements, structured
layout and serif typography. Aimed at politically engaged readers and
designers, the outcome was one A4 publication. This project taught me about
collaborative design, consistent layouts, working with colour and the practical
challenges of preparing for print.
