A UWE (University of the West of England) day project;
produce an A3, 2 colour riso poster using entirely traditional processes (no
computers) to explore the idea of the city and city living within a few hours.
This would be done using only through found images, provided type and 1 of 4
provided quotes (the chosen one being “Eyes lock for a second, then dart away,
seeking other eyes, never stopping...”).
My focus was to capture the difference
between the cold stares and darting eyes of the passersby and the living
feeling we have being in our own world while walking through the city. With no
time for style influences and no direct audience, images were found from
National Geographic and Artform. This was an exercise in the traditional
processes of graphic design, with scalpels and glue and where every change is a
lengthy one. It taught me a lot about hierarchy, white space and the general
principles of graphic design.
